Concord, N.C. (March 7, 2001) - MB2 Motorsports announced today it has named Newt Moore as crew chief for the No. 36 "M&M's"® Pontiac driven by Kenny Schrader on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit. Most recently Moore served as crew chief for Galaxy Motorsports.
"My main objective as crew chief of the "M&M's"® Racing Team will be to get Kenny and the No. 36 team consistently running in the top 10 every week," Moore said. "But I'm just a piece of the puzzle. MB2 Motorsports is a great organization with a shop full of top notch, experienced people and I see a lot of potential for this team. They've just made a major commitment by building a new shop with all the latest tools we need to put together winning race cars so I know without asking they want to win races and finish up front.
"This will be the first time that Kenny and I have worked together, but I've been around long enough to know that he is a great driver and it is our job to make sure we give him the best equipment possible week in and week out and make the right calls on Sunday. I've spent a little time with both Kenny and the team, but the best test for us will be this weekend in Atlanta."
Moore, 38, started in Winston Cup racing as a crew chief in 1997 with driver Kenny Wallace. In his fifth year as a crew chief he has also worked with driver Wally Dallenbach and Melling Racing. He has made 103 starts as a crew chief, with one top-five, eight top 10s and one pole position. Prior to becoming a crew chief Moore was a two-time track champion at Nashville Speedway.
"It is time to get the "M&M's"® Pontiac back into the top 10 and having Newt on board with us is our first step in making that happen," Schrader said. "We've spent the last day talking about Atlanta and getting ready for this weekend.
"When we get on the track for practice Friday morning, it will be back to business as usual. I tell him how the car is handling and he makes the calls to get it better. We've got good people on this team, we're in a great new facility and Johnny Benson and I are communicating really well as teammates.
"It is not always easy to make changes, but sometimes that is the best and only thing you can do. Sammy and I had two full years together, and I wish him the best for the future."
Schrader, 45, is in his 17th full season of NASCAR Winston Cup racing. He has 495 career Winston Cup starts including four wins, 64 top fives, 171 top 10s, 23 pole positions and 15 outside pole positions.
