ENGLEWOOD, Colo.-The SCCA Pro Racing Speedvision World Challenge has
trimmed its schedule by one event after the cancellation announcement of the
San Deigo Grand Prix.
Listed as a TBA since the initial 2001 schedule announcement in September of last year, the event's official cancellation came out of the Trans-Am Series office earlier today.
"San Diego is a great market for our racing, but there were too many uncertainties regarding the 2001 event, including lack of a firm date and location," said Mitch Wright, Speedvision World Challenge General Manager. "We have already secured another date for one of our series, which should be announced shortly, and are looking at other options for the other series."
Wright also noted that the series has not officially cancelled the Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant weekend, although the event may possibly be cancelled by the headlining American Le Mans Series.
"It's still too early to make an official announcement about Mont-Tremblant," said Wright. "Right now, it is still on our schedule."
The Speedvision GT and Touring Car Championships each travel to Sebring International Raceway next week, as part of the Exxon Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring Weekend.
