Bosch Honored for Diesel Technology With Prestigious PACE Award

    DETROIT, March 6 Robert Bosch Corporation has been named a
winner of the 2001 Automotive News PACE(TM) Awards for its High-Pressure
Common Rail Systems (CRS) for diesel engines.

    The Bosch High-Pressure CRS is a result of integrated product development
efforts within Bosch.  The system gives consumers reduced fuel consumption,
decreased vehicle emissions and greatly improved vehicle performance.
Combustion noise is virtually eliminated.

    For diesel engine manufacturers, the innovation provides a high degree of
injection pressure and injection timing flexibility.  The system gives diesel
engine manufacturers optimal fuel injection system performance for improved
engine performance independent of speed and load.

    Bosch's unique CRS allows easy integration with practically all existing
diesel engine designs, minimizing costly engine design and engine
manufacturing tooling changes.  This direct injection also eases integration
through greater flexibility in mating the fuel system to the engine.

    "The High-Pressure Common Rail Systems for injection of diesel fuel is
expected to replace conventional systems," said Helmut Weissbeck, vice
president, diesel fuel systems at Bosch.  "It is seen as a significantly
better diesel engine fuel system technology, one that is more capable of
meeting requirements imposed on the NAFTA diesel market for passenger cars and
trucks."

    Jointly established by Ernst & Young and Automotive News in 1994, the PACE
(Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contributions to Excellence) Awards program
honors automotive suppliers who have embraced innovation or adapted and
reinvented themselves.
