Dana's Structural Products Group Named Finalist for 2001 Pace
Award
TOLEDO, Ohio, March 6 Dana Corporation's
Structural Products Group was named a finalist for the 2001 PACE Award last
night during a ceremony at the Detroit Opera House in Detroit, Mich.
Dana was recognized in the Manufacturing Process category for its
proprietary Robo Clamp(TM) hydroforming machine. Robo Clamp is the largest
high-pressure hydroform press in the world for automotive components. It
produces long straight parts such as full-perimeter frame rails in a flexible
modular design that can be shortened or lengthened as necessary to accommodate
a large range of products, while achieving improved asset utilization.
The machine's basic design was developed by the Structural Products
Group's advanced engineering department and is protected by pending patents.
The first production machines will support new programs beginning this year.
The Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive suppliers' Contributions to
Excellence) Awards program recognizes automotive suppliers for innovative
contributions to the improvement of automotive products and services. The
award is co-sponsored by Automotive News and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.
Dana has either received the PACE Award or been a finalist since the
award's inception in 1995. Dana's Structural Products Group has been honored
as a finalist three times, and its Spicer Driveshaft Inc. and former Spicer
Transmission Division are previous recipients of the award. Additionally,
Dana's Plumley Division, Spicer Heavy Axle and Brake Division, Perfect Circle
Division, and Modules and Systems Group were also previously honored as
finalists.
"We are all extremely proud to have again been a finalist for the 2001
PACE Award," said Bruce Butcher, vice president of the Structural Products
Group. "As this recognition demonstrates, Dana is truly dedicated to
innovation and leads the way in developing new technology."
