Yazaki North America Announces Executive
Changes
CANTON, Mich., March 6 Yazaki North America, Inc. (YNA), a
leading Tier One supplier of vehicle power and data solutions to the
automotive industry, today announced two significant executive changes at the
company's U.S. headquarters in Canton, Mich. Tetsuro Suzuki, who had been
president and CEO, becomes chairman and CEO; while George R. Perry, who had
been executive vice president, and president of Yazaki's Global Ford Business
Unit, becomes president and chief operating officer. Both appointments become
effective April 1, 2001.
Tetsuro Suzuki, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
As chairman of YNA and its components companies in Georgia (NACOM) and
Texas (ELCOM), Suzuki will continue to oversee the growth of the company on
the North American continent. Suzuki has been with YNA and its parent
company, Yazaki Corporation, for 30 years and has held his most recent
position as president and CEO since 1998. Previously, Suzuki was president of
Yazaki Europe. He was also director and general manager of Yazaki Saltano
Portugal; manager in charge of international joint ventures; and marketing and
sales manager of the Dallas office of Yazaki Corporation.
During his tenure as YNA president, Suzuki championed the development of
customer focused business units, which have proven to be a key factor in the
company's success. Suzuki, who is also chairman of the executive committee of
YNA's North American Automotive Group, will remain at the company's U.S.
headquarters in Canton. He's currently a board member of the Detroit Regional
Chamber and is a member of the Canton Community Foundation.
George R. Perry, President and Chief Operating Officer
While he has been with YNA for only one year, Perry's automotive industry
experience spans 30 years. In his new role, Perry becomes responsible for the
continuing growth and development of YNA's OEM business, strategic
partnerships, and overall company competitiveness. He's also the first
non-Asian president in YNA's history.
Perry began his career in aerospace before moving into automotive, first
with the Ford Motor Company as an electronics reliability engineer and later
in various quality, engineering, and operations roles with the automotive
electronics group of Bendix (now Siemens). After helping to launch an
electronic plant in Toulouse, France in 1979, he rose to the position of
worldwide vice president of Quality in 1984. Perry was appointed vice
president and general manager of the company's Fuel System Components Division
in 1987 and was elected to the board of directors of Siemens Automotive
Corporation in 1992. In 1993 he was appointed president and CEO of Siemens
Automotive, serving until December 1999 when he took early retirement to
pursue new challenges. During his term, Siemens Automotive enjoyed
unprecedented growth and prosperity in North America.
Throughout his career, Perry has been a strong supporter of education,
having been particularly active in efforts to turn kids on to math, science
and engineering at all grade levels. He is a past chairman of the CTEA board
of directors, and has served on the boards of SAE's Vision 2000 initiative,
Jobs for America's Graduates, and Oakland County's Automation Alley. Perry
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Pratt
Institute in 1966.
