ILOG Configurator Selected for Integrated Automotive Cockpit Design

ILOG Helps Automotive Engineers 'Test Drive' Designs Before Prototyping Phase

DETROIT, March 6 ILOG(R) (Nasdaq: ILOG; Nouveau Marche France) today announced that ILOG
Configurator(TM) will be used by Visteon Corporation for an
innovative design project in which the development process is streamlined
while the number of parts within the vehicle cockpit is dramatically reduced.
ILOG made the announcement at the SAE World Congress being held at the Cobo
Center in Detroit from March 5-8, 2001.
ILOG Configurator will be used in the development of virtual automotive
components for Visteon's integrated cockpit design project, allowing
automotive engineers to test drive their designs before the prototyping phase.
Besides potential time and cost savings, the project's expected benefits
include lower vehicle weight and improved performance and quality. Another
benefit is a reduction in the number of parts required for a traditional
cockpit from more than 100 to just 12.
Unlike other product configuration systems, ILOG Configurator concurrently
analyzes all possible configurations to get the best possible result rather
than making the user react to one result at a time until the right answer is
achieved. ILOG's extremely flexible approach is made possible by constraint
programming technology, enabling the user to prioritize the desired features
rather than having them preset by the system.
ILOG Configurator is part of the ILOG Optimization Suite(TM), which is
used within the automotive industry for solving a wide variety of problems,
including assembly line sequencing, design optimization and knowledge-based
engineering.
ILOG is recognized as the technology leader in optimization technology and
the leading provider of optimization software components. By embedding ILOG's
cutting-edge software components into their advanced planning and scheduling
systems, automotive manufacturers worldwide are better able to meet changing
market demands and stay competitive. Other automotive industry leaders powered
by ILOG include DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Michelin, Nissan and Renault.
