Bank of America sponsors Concours
d'Elegance
AMELIA ISLAND, Fla., March 5 Bank of America ,
a major sponsor of the 6th Annual Concours d'Elegance, March 8-11 at the Ritz
Carlton, Amelia Island, Fla., will have on display the 1958 Cadillac Brougham
once owned by Ricky Nelson. The Concours is a classic car show that features
exotic vehicles from around the world. The event also showcases many new
prototype cars directly from the manufacturer. Proceeds from the event will
benefit Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
Nelson purchased the limited edition Brougham in 1958 for $14,000, a
staggering price at the time, which was equal then to the cost of a Rolls
Royce. Nothing was spared in the Brougham. It featured air suspension,
leather interiors with Mouton carpeting, a vanity case with lipstick, compact
and beveled glass mirror, six magnetized tumblers, a tissue dispenser, and a
bottle of Arpege perfume. The trunk would open and close at the touch of a
button and the car had a six-way power seat with a memory position. To own an
El Dorado Brougham in the late 50s was to own the best!
The Nelson car is now owned by Bill Warner, Amelia Island Concours
chairman. Today the car is valued at $50,000. This classic car is in
pristine condition and will be displayed in the Bank of America Hospitality
tent during the show. The Brougham was only in production two years, and
Cadillac lost more than $10,000 each for the 700 of these cars built.
Visitors to the tent will have the opportunity to enter a contest for a cash
prize, and Bank of America will make a matching donation to Hospice in the
winner's name.
Bank of America also is once again sponsoring the Bank of America Golf
Classic on Saturday March 10 at the Golf Club at Amelia Island. Proceeds from
the golf tournament will also benefit Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
"This Classic Car show is an enjoyable event that allows car enthusiasts
to see some of the most exciting classic and prototype cars anywhere in the
U.S.," said Floyd Robinson, Bank of America Auto Group president. "Supporting
an important community resource like Hospice through supporting the show and
golf tournament is just one of the ways that Bank of America and its
associates give back to the communities we serve."
