Cummins Announces Major Initiative to Reduce NOx Emissions

COLUMBUS, Ind.--March 5, 2001--Cummins Inc. announced today a major initiative to provide engine owners with an electronic calibration that will generate lower levels of oxides of nitrogen (NOx). These calibrations will be available on 1996 to 1998 Cummins M11 Plus or N14 Plus engines. This voluntary low NOx program is the first of a number of the company's upcoming initiatives to promote a cleaner environment.
"We are providing our customers with a way to positively impact the environment today," said Martha Brooks, Cummins Vice President and General Manager - Truck and Bus Business. "This will allow our truck customers to achieve lower NOx levels immediately with no reduction in performance or reliability. Customers may go to qualified Cummins distributors or authorized dealers to have electronic calibrations uploaded in just minutes. This program signifies the strength and depth of the Cummins commitment to the diesel industry, to our environment, and to our customers."
"This truly is a win-win for customers. We offer products today which lead the industry in fuel economy, and we can generate additional environmental benefits by recalibrating in-service engines before rebuild," added Brooks. The program will be formally unveiled along with a special promotion at the Mid-America Truck show on March 22.
