'Car Guy of the Year' Nominations Reflect Unique Profiles, Achievements

DETROIT, March 5 Success takes many forms, but to earn the
fifth annual "Car Guy of the Year" title you first have to demonstrate a
notable achievement that leads to a nomination. And with four previous
winners setting a high standard for what the award represents, the current
'short list' of nominations is no exception.

The Car Guy of the Year award is a title given to one outstanding
individual each year by a select committee of diverse representatives from the
automotive community. The nominees for the 2000 Car Guy of the Year award
include:  Tom Gale, just-retired executive vice president, DaimlerChrysler;
Tony George, owner, Indianapolis Motor Speedway; J Mays, VP Design, Ford Motor
Company; Bruce Meyer, president, Petersen Automotive Museum; Luca di
Montezemolo, chief executive officer, Ferrari; Louise Ann Noeth, motorsports
journalist/author; Richard Parry-Jones, VP, global product engineering, Ford
Motor Company; Roger Penske, chairman and founder, Penske Corporation.

    AWARD HISTORY

"There are certainly awards for cars, for car companies, and recognition
awards for people in industry and in the car hobby," said Steve Ford, co-
administrator of the award program. "What distinguishes this salute to
special individuals is that whether they are only nominated or actually win
the award, only the success stories that blend genuine product insights, a
genuine passion for cars with corresponding notable contributions end up on
this list."

The nomination list is created by the Car Guy of the Year Committee, which
in itself represents a diverse range of perspectives from the automotive
community: Mario Andretti, Bob Bondurant, Cynthia Claes, Steve Ford, Andy
Granatelli, Dick Guldstrand, Chuck Jordan, John Lypen, Bob Lutz, Roy Miller,
Heinz Prechter, Lorraine Schultz, Bob Sinclair and Don Sommer.

"We've called this committee 'car guys of the round table,'" said Ford.
"After all, these are all people with their own notable automotive
perspectives that they bring to their nominations and the final vote." Past
winners who have earned that 'final vote' are Jacques Nasser, 1999; Bob Lutz,
1998; Dick Guldstrand, 1997; Bob Sinclair, 1996.

Administered by The Car Guy Show/WPON radio Detroit and co-sponsored by
Auto Zone enthusiasts' store in Birmingham and PR Newswire, the fifth annual
Car Guy of the Year award will be named during the SAE World Congress in
Detroit, Mich. Lorraine Schultz, founder & international director of the
Women's Automotive Association International (WAAI) and Car Guy of the Year
Committee member, will announce the 2000 Car Guy of the Year winner
Thursday, March 8, at the conclusion of the Public Relations Society of
America Automotive Council's tour of the SAE 2001 World Congress exhibits.
