Exclusive: Schrempp to Announce Expansion for
DCX in South Africa? just-auto.com Reports
LONDON, March 2 http://www.just-auto.com --
Juergen Schrempp is expected to announce the details for further expansion at
the East London plant in South Africa on March 13th when he is the keynote
speaker at NADA's annual national dealer convention.
The report at http://just-auto.com/news_detail.asp?art=24828&app=1
says that the East London plant -- the only one in the world where the
Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler and Mitsubishi businesses have been fully integrated
-- is the global source for right-hand versions of the C-Class and is still
the only Mercedes-Benz plant that also builds vehicles on Mitsubishi
platforms.
It seems that South Africa has escaped DaimlerChrysler's global cost
cutting and restructuring, instead facing expansion and investment. Working
with Mitsubishi is proving successful at the plant and further developments
with the Japanese brand are anticipated.
The expansion will cope with the strong demand for the C-Class in right
hand drive markets around the world.
