- Memo Rojas, No. 15, who posted the quickest time of the day in the morning
session, was
quickest during the official winter test held January 26, 2001 here at
Homestead-Miami Speedway.
- Afternoon times were significantly slower then the morning session. The reason given was that the rubber from the Grand-Am cars had made the track slick, unlike the rubber from the CART cars, testing on the track Wednesday, which provided grip during the morning session.
- Bryan Sellers, No. 32, ran limited laps in the morning session, suffering brake problems.
- Jason LaPoint, No. 89 and Tom Dyer, No. 33, were penalized a five minute stop-and-go penalty in the morning session for passing under the yellow.
- Doug Bell, No. 3, brought out the first black flag of the weekend during the afternoon session after pulling off course. A broken wire had disabled his car.
- Niki Coello, No. 8, rolled to a stop entering turn one in the afternoon session, bringing out a black flag. The reason given was a fuel pump failure.
