Mazda Sales Surge Nearly 19 Percent in February

             - Company Led by Tribute, Millenia, Miata and 626 -

    IRVINE, Calif., March 1 Mazda sales in the United States
continued to heat up the dead of winter, surging 18.8 percent in February.
This strong performance comes on the heels of a 33.4 percent jump in January,
pushing the company's annual total almost 25 percent ahead of last year's
pace.

    Overall, Mazda's month-to-date sales for February are 22,865, and the
year-to-date sales total is 41,188 units.

    Mazda's recently introduced, award-winning Tribute sport utility vehicle
continued to lead the company's sales increase, with the revised Millenia,
Miata and 626 also turning in strong performances.  Millenia sales leapt
49.5 percent over the same period last year, making this the best February
ever for Millenia sales.  Miata sales were up 10 percent over last
February -- Miata's best February since 1997.  Sales of the midsize 626 sedan
also increased 6.5 percent for the month.
