Mitsubishi Motors Calendar Year-to-Date Sales Up 2.5% in February

    CYPRESS, Calif., March 1 Mitsubishi Motor Sales of
America, Inc. (MMSA) today reported February sales of 24,331 vehicles, the
second best February in Mitsubishi Motors' history in the United States.  This
figure represents a decrease of 2.8% from last year's best-ever February of
26,069 vehicles.  Calendar year-to-date sales increased 2.5% to 45,980 units.

    Though overall vehicle sales were off slightly, light truck sales were up
13.6% compared to the same month last year, fueled by a 476.9% sales increase
of the Montero luxury SUV.  The Eclipse Spyder also saw a strong February with
total sales of 1,331 units, up 259.8%.  Both models were introduced last
spring and have contributed to Mitsubishi Motors' strong sales in the 2000
calendar year.

    "We continue to see great customer enthusiasm for the Montero and the
Eclipse," said Pierre Gagnon, executive vice president and chief operating
officer, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America.  "Our products are better than
ever and dealer enthusiasm is at an all-time high."

    Mitsubishi Motors announced on Tuesday, February 27, 2001, its plans to
start selling cars in Canada in early 2003.  Starting with 51 dealerships in
the first year, this Canadian network will grow to 150 units within five
years.  Mitsubishi Motors sees sales projections of 38,000 vehicles annually
in Canada by 2007.

    Product sales numbers of note:

    --  February 2001 TOTAL sales equal 24,331 units, the second-best February
        ever, down 2.8% over February 2000 record sales of 26,069.

    --  Best ever February for Eclipse Spyder with 1,331 units sold, up 259.8%
        over February 2000.

    --  Best ever February for Montero with 2,027 units sold, up 476.9% over
        February 2000.
