BEI Duncan Electronics 98E Series Sensor Elements
TUSTIN, Calif.--March 1, 2001--Offering significant cost savings with increased design flexibility for position sensing, the BEI Duncan Electronics 98E Series Sensor Elements provide durable and low-cost alternatives to typical fully packaged potentiometers, particularly when packaging constraints, size and operating efficiency are important considerations.By incorporating a 98E potentiometric element (conductive plastic on a substrate) and contact-set directly into the mating assembly, OEMs can now further reduce these device costs by eliminating all the redundant packaging typically required for rotary and linear position sensors.
Available in a variety of substrate materials to withstand high temperatures and harsh environments, the 98E Sensor Elements are ideally suited for a wide range of applications including automotive, heavy equipment, marine, office automation, appliances, instrumentation, and laboratory robotics.
Use of custom Duncan 98E Elements can significantly reduce space, weight and overall costs of existing designs. These compact resistive elements may be supplied individually or supplied jointly as an element and contact assembly. Duncan also offers custom wiper/slider blocks assemblies as contact carriers to match each element design. All elements can be tailored to meet desired electrical and travel characteristics to exactly profile the customer's unique application requirements. Substrate thickness as low as 0.010-inch are available.
The 98E Series Elements incorporate BEI Duncan's proven experience in ink formulation and precision engineering to provide the exact combination of manufacturing and quality to achieve optimum sensor function performance. Sensor Element styles include rotary or linear configurations with versatile long-life characteristics including a dither life of up to one billion cycles, operating temperature range of -55(degree)C to 250(degree)C, and resistance range of 1K to 100K.
Other outstanding technical features include infinite resolution, linearity of +/-0.5% to 3.0%, and electrical travel of 0.1-inch to 40-inch. BEI Duncan sensor design capabilities include provision of multiple sensors on printed circuit boards integrated with system/module circuitry for such applications as modular panel controls, dual sensor functions, and special packaging capabilities.
