New Leadership in Place for IUE-CWA/Delphi-GM
Conference Board
Clark Wins Election as Chairman; Sutton Named as Secretary
SARASOTA, Fla., March 1 Delegates to the IUE-CWA/Delphi-
General Motors-Valeo-DMAX Conference Board unanimously elected Dayton Local
755 Shop Chairman Jim Clark to a four-year term as conference board chairman.
Following the vote, IUE-CWA President Edward Fire announced that Clark
will be assisted by Warren, Ohio Local 717 Shop Chairman Bob Sutton, whom he
named as conference board secretary.
Fire said he decided to reinstate the secretary post because the scope of
the conference board has expanded from solely negotiating with General Motors
to handling contracts with four different corporations due to sales and spin-
offs.
"Bob and Jim are two of the finest trade unionists I've ever worked with,"
said Fire. "I am fully confident that under their leadership the conference
board will meet the challenges that lie ahead as the economy slows down and
more of our jobs are threatened due to global trade."
Both Clark and Sutton bring vast experience to their new jobs, having
worked their way up from the shop floor to top leadership positions in their
locals. Both are in their second terms as shop chairman.
"Beyond the traditional servicing of locals, the conference board also has
tremendous opportunities to organize and register more members to vote. But we
also must be vigilant and creative in protecting our members' jobs at the
plants we have now," said Clark, who was instrumental in keeping the doors to
his plant open when it was threatened with closure two years ago.
"I welcome the opportunity to serve the conference board members and look
forward to working closely with Bob," Clark added.
Sutton has served on six national negotiating committees. "I am excited
about this new opportunity to step up to the national stage and address our
members' needs," he said.
Clark will be headquartered at the conference board office in Dayton,
while Sutton will work out of the Warren office.
