Supporting the SAE Strategic Alliance Group (booth #2558), Delphi will
join a number of other manufacturers in an exhibit that centers on "driver
focus." Delphi will display its Communiport(R) MPCpro (Mobile Productivity
Center) model, which allows drivers to access Palm(TM) V and Vx hand-held
computer functions and content by voice activation through an Ericsson
cellular phone, hands-free. Delphi also will discuss its workload management
system designed to help address driver focus.
In a separate exhibit, the National Automotive Center (booth #1447), which
is affiliated with the U.S. Department of Defense, will display its "Smart
Truck" concept vehicle, a vehicle platform designed to test, integrate and
showcase cutting edge automotive technology that will enable soldiers to be
more responsive, deployable and agile. As part of NAC's exhibit, Delphi will
showcase QUADRASTEER(TM), which combines conventional front-wheel steering
with an electrically powered rear-wheel steering system. Designed
specifically for full-size trucks, vans and sport-utility vehicles,
QUADRASTEER electronically controls the direction of the rear wheels, helping
to shorten the vehicle's turning radius at low speeds and providing a
significant increase in vehicle stability at higher speeds.
"We look forward to displaying Delphi technologies that will soon be
making an impact in the truck market as well as the traditional automotive and
consumer products markets," said J.T. Battenberg III, Delphi chairman, chief
executive officer and president. "In addition, we are pleased to be able to
participate in a number of SAE World Congress events, where we will be able to
share in discussing important industry issues with our colleagues."
More than 100 Delphi engineers, researchers and scientists will present 34
technical papers, lead technical sessions and participate in panel discussions
throughout the 2001 SAE World Congress.
Two leading Delphi executives also will be part of important panel
discussions.
Guy C. Hachey, vice president, Delphi Automotive Systems and president,
Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems, will participate in the Blue Ribbon Panel on
March 5, on the topic "Succeeding in the Alliance Game." The panel discussion
takes place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in room W1-51 at Cobo Center.
In addition, Dr. Andrew Brown, Jr., Delphi director of engineering, will
be a panelist on the issue of "Driver Distraction's Impact on the
Implementation of Telematics." The discussion takes place on March 5 from
1 to 2:30 p.m. in room M3-31 at Cobo Center.
