Vector SCM Appoints Greg Humes Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

    DETROIT--Feb. 27, 2001--Vector SCM, General Motors' global lead logistics service provider, has announced the appointment of Gregory A. Humes to the position of vice president and chief operating officer. The announcement was made by Gary Kowalski, president and chief executive officer of the company.
    In his new position, Humes will be responsible for planning, designing and executing the company's technology and physical infrastructure to provide end-to-end visibility for products and materials as they move within GM's supply chain.
    Vector SCM, which was formed in December 2000 as a joint venture between GM and CNF, a leading provider of global supply chain services, will provide rapid and decisive supply chain management solutions and ultimately be responsible for coordinating more than 180 million pounds of material from 12,000 points of origin and the delivery of more than eight million vehicles a year on a global basis.
    Humes, 40, previously served as president of the global automotive division of Penske Logistics where he was responsible for global logistics services from order to delivery. Under his leadership, Penske Logistics Global Automotive more than tripled its annual revenues and developed many global logistics initiatives. Its major customers included Ford, General Motors, and Saturn. For Ford, Humes led the management team in the development and implementation of a system responsible for the movement of all material into every Ford assembly plant in North America. Humes also worked with GM and Saturn to set up a logistics optimization center for the assembly plants in Flint, Michigan and Spring Hill, Tenn.
    Moving to another region of the globe, Humes directed and developed the joint venture company of Cotia-Penske Logistics in South America with customers such as Ford, Hewlett Packard, Carrefour and Americons.
    "Greg's extensive knowledge and experience with global logistics management for the automotive industry are a tremendous asset to us. He has been successful at achieving results through strong strategic process management, information technology integration, and solid execution," said Kowalski.
    Humes began his career at Leaseway Transportation Corp. in 1983. In 1995, when Penske Truck Leasing acquired Leaseway, he was named senior vice president of operations, central region. He was promoted to president of global automotive in 1998.
    Humes serves on the boards of directors of the National Automotive Transporters Association and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. He is a member of the Michigan State University Supply Chain Management Council, the Council of Logistics Management Roundtable, the Global Logistics Council of Europe and the Automotive Industry Action Group. He earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Western Michigan University and an MBA in finance and administration from Central Michigan University.
