Rubber Technology International Receives State Approval for Major Plant Expansion; Authorization Allows RTEK to Increase Tire Storage Capacity to 30,000 Tires
LOS ANGELES--Feb. 27, 2001--Rubber Technology International Inc. (OTCBB:RTEK), announced that on Feb. 20 Trevor Webb, President and CEO of the Company, appeared before the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) in Sacramento, Calif., to finalize approval of the Major Waste Tire Permit that RTI applied for in April of 2000.The CIWMB cleared Rubber Technology International for environmental impact and tire storage safety and approved the site for expansion from two acres to 2.72 acres for the Los Angeles facility. The Company has been operating under a Minor Waste Tire Permit since 1999, which allowed for the storage of up to 4,999 waste tires. The new Major Waste Tire Permit allows RTI to store up to 30,000 tires, or tire equivalent, on the site at any time. The new 30,000-tire limit is equal to 600,000 lbs. of tires, which are ground up daily to a 1/4 inch minus material, which is used for landscape, playground and feedstock material. The feedstock is used to supply the cracker mills, which produce crumb rubber, used in rubberized asphalt and for molded products.
According to Tom Reichman, COO, "With this new Major Site Permit we will now be able to process, store and prepare in advance for shipping the material for which we already have contracts. Beginning the first week in March we will start shipping crumb rubber to Arizona and California for use in rubberized asphalt. This is in addition to shipping our molded products and material to our other markets."
