Audi A2 - Too Costly to Make Commercial Sense?
Asks just-auto.com Editor
LONDON, Feb. 27 http://www.just-auto.com -- Aluminium
technology has come to a head in the form of the Audi A2.
In his editorial at http://just-auto.com/editorial_detail.asp?id=47, David
Leggett, managing editor for just-auto.com, says that with aluminium body
panels and space frame design, the Audi A2 is an expensive car to make.
Indeed, a recent study estimates that using aluminium on this car makes it
twice as costly as using steel. In a high volume segment of the car market
where the A2 is positioned, it makes little commercial sense to use high-cost
aluminium so extensively according to Leggett.
