Perceptron, Inc. Announces New Web-Enabled,
Wireless Communication Interface
PLYMOUTH, Mich., Feb. 26 Perceptron, Inc. ,
a world leader in information-based gauging, guidance, and inspection-focused
process management solutions, announces the release of its new DataHawk(TM)
wireless communication interface, leveraging and increasing the capabilities
of its IPNet(TM) web-based information technology for immediate access to
manufacturing data.
This new technology provides Perceptron IPNet(TM) customers with direct
portable Internet-time access to production data and manufacturing process
information, resulting in a more rapid and proactive approach to solving
manufacturing process problems. The versatile DataHawk(TM) interface can be
accessed through a number of commercially available Internet-enabled devices
such as Palm(TM) Pilots, web phones, and other standard wireless application
protocol (WAP) devices.
Perceptron's latest breakthrough allows engineers, manufacturing managers,
and executives to extract summary information from Perceptron's IPNet(TM)
architecture. The DataHawk(TM) technology also enables manufacturers to
monitor in real-time the build quality of their suppliers who use Perceptron's
IPNet(TM) platform.
Tom Rzeznik, Perceptron's Director of Product Development commented, "The
Internet and WAP is the underlying foundation for technology used in this
application. WAP is the current standard for accessing wireless Internet
information on a mobile or portable device.
"Once the user requests information on a PDA device the request is sent
via WAP to the IPNet(TM) system connected to the Internet. The requested data
is then sent to the PDA by the IPNet(TM) system, which displays it in a
summary format. This summary information can then prompt the requestor to
obtain a more detailed analysis, to contact the operator at the IPNet(TM)
system directly, or to take other action. Standard network firewalls and
access controls provide for the security of the manufacturing plant's data."
Alfred A. Pease, Chairman, President and CEO of Perceptron, added, "This
highly innovative web-enabled, wireless communication interface further
advances Perceptron's leadership position in the industrial process
measurement and management industry, and provides our customers with an
enhanced capability of truly compelling value."
Perceptron designs, manufactures and markets information-based process
management solutions for industry. Perceptron has been providing process
management solutions and services to a broad range of customers in the
automotive and forest products industries since 1981 and the systems from
Perceptron are recognized as important tools for improvement of both quality
and efficiency. Perceptron and its subsidiaries market their products
worldwide through offices in Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Canada, Germany,
