Atlantic Motors and ITIC Open New General Motors Dealer Facility in Krasnoyarsk, Russia
FAIRFAX, Va.--Feb. 21, 2001--The year 2001 marks the opening of Atlantic Motors' new 25,000 sq. ft. dealership facility, devoted to sales, parts and service operations. The new dealership, designed to fully meet G.M.'s basic requirements and layout specifications, demonstrates a long-term commitment to the region.
The dealership carries Chevrolet, Pontiac and Cadillac vehicles, as well as Opel cars and domestic GAZ cars and trucks. Based on its excellent reputation for cold weather performance, the four-wheel drive Chevrolet Blazer is the most popular GM import. General Motors has provided financing of vehicle inventory for Atlantic Motors, an indication of the company's solid business status.
The inventory offers a big boost to sales since most customers prefer to buy right off the showroom floor. When vehicles must be ordered, its takes about 10 days to receive a car or truck that is in stock at the GM facilities in Moscow and several months if it must be ordered from the factory.
The workforce at Atlantic Motors is a special group. The company's 70 employees include 10 in sales, 10 in parts, 20 in administration and 30 in service, and all have received General Motors training for their positions.
They are better educated than the general population - 70 percent are university educated, including many mechanical and electrical engineers who held high tech positions before the economic collapse. Some Atlantic Motors employees commute from the nearby closed city of Zheleznogorsk also known as Krasnoyarsk-26, a secret weapons manufacturing facility under the Soviet regime.
Atlantic Motors received financing for the new building from its American partner, International Technological Information Consultants (ITIC) of Fairfax, Virginia in the United States. ITIC President Winston Jerome Lindsley said: "Atlantic Motors early and solid success provided the stability needed to weather the Russian economic crash of 1998 when most other fledgling Western businesses collapsed. Although vehicle sales were limited, the service and parts business carried the company through these hard times. We are very optimistic now that the Russian economy is pulling out of recession and we are seeing robust vehicle and service sales today which makes the hard times we went through, during the last couple of years, all worth the risk."
