'Jaguar's Tribute to Style' to Paint Rodeo
Drive Red on Sunday, March 18, 2001
Star-Studded Benefit Will Feature North American Preview
Of All-New Jaguar X-Type
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Feb. 20 Catherine Zeta-Jones has
just been named as a host of Jaguar's Tribute to Style, the fourth installment
of the illustrious "Tribute to Style" series. She will be accompanied by
co-hosts Elizabeth Hurley, Samuel L. Jackson, Kelly Preston, Sela Ward, Dennis
Hopper and Kelsey Grammer. This star-studded charity gala will close the
world-famous Rodeo Drive on Sunday, March 18, 2001, one week prior to the 73rd
Annual Academy Awards. Jaguar's Tribute to Style will benefit The
Entertainment Industry Foundation's Arts and Education Fund and serve as a
glittering celebration of Hollywood's legendary style and glamour, giving us
our last glimpse of the stars prior to the Oscars.
Jaguar's Tribute to Style will pay tribute to "The Red Carpet as
Hollywood's Fashion Runway," with cocktails, fantasy auctions, dinner and a
concert. One of very few times the famed shopping district is closed to
traffic, Rodeo Drive will literally be transformed into a red carpet.
Jaguar's Tribute to Style will also serve as the perfect coming-out party
for the 2001 Jaguar X-TYPE -- the automaker's all-new $29,950 luxury sport
sedan -- as this will be the first time the car will be officially seen in
North America. Jaguar will be offering a one-of-a-kind X-TYPE in "Rodeo Red"
for auction, which will provide the lucky attendees the first glimpse of the
car. All X-TYPEs will be equipped as standard with all-wheel drive -- the
first time this has ever been offered by Jaguar -- as well as leather seating,
bird's-eye maple wood trim, a choice of manual or automatic transmissions and
be available with either a 2.5- or 3.0-liter V6 engine
Designers along Rodeo Drive will create one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by
"red glamour," to be silently auctioned during the evening. Participating
designers this year include Fendi, Badgley Mischka, ESCADA, La Perla,
Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, and Gucci. All of the auction pieces will
be on display in the designers' shop windows beginning on March 9, with
winners being announced at Jaguar's Tribute to Style. All proceeds from the
auction will be donated to the Entertainment Industry Foundation arts and
education funds.
"We're thrilled to have the opportunity to support a charity as important
as The Entertainment Industry Foundation through our presentation of Jaguar's
Tribute to Style," said Michelle Cervantez, vice president, marketing, for
Jaguar North America. "Rodeo Drive's style and luxury are the perfect
compliment to Jaguar's cars. And to have the opportunity for us to combine
the North American debut of our newest car with this event is an added bonus."
Entertainment Tonight has called the Tribute to Style series "an
unbelievable Beverly Hills bash" and USA Today says it is sure to be
"celebrity gridlock." Past guests have included Warren Beatty, Naomi
Campbell, Michael Douglas, Ashley Judd, Demi Moore, Arnold Schwarzeneggar,
Sylvester Stallone, Elizabeth Taylor, and Donatella Versace. Andrea Bocelli
and Placido Domingo have also performed at past galas.
2001 Entertainment Industry Co-Chairs include Ruth and Jake Bloom, Susan
and Jonathon Dolgen, Kelly Chapman and Ron Meyer, Jo Champa and Joseph
Farrell, Wendy and Leonard Goldberg, and Jamie and Steve Tisch. 2001 Fashion
Industry Co-Chairs include Colleen O'Kane of Christian Dior, Gucci's Greg
Stewart and La Perla's Peri Ellen Berne.
Since its inception in 1996, the event has raised more than $2 million for
charity. This year, a variety of education and arts initiatives, including
the California State Summer School for the Arts, Teach for America, and the
Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art will be beneficiaries. The
Entertainment Industry Foundation is the most successful charitable umbrella
organization in Hollywood and has raised more than $170 million for a variety
of causes.
