Joseph Chao Joins DaimlerChrysler Corporation as Vice President - Platform Advance Manufacturing Engineering

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 20 The Chrysler Group announced
today that Joseph L. Chao has been appointed Vice President - Platform Advance
Manufacturing Engineering, reporting to Frank J. Ewasyshyn, Senior Vice
President - Advance Manufacturing Engineering & General Manager - Minivan
Operations.  Chao joins DaimlerChrysler from General Motors, where he most
recently served as Executive Director - Quality Reliability and Competitive
Operations Implementation.
    "Joe will be a tremendous asset to the Chrysler Group Team," said
Ewasyshyn.  "We are continuously looking for ways to strengthen the group and
we feel Joe will be an excellent addition to the organization."
    In this position, Chao will be responsible for all Advance Manufacturing
Engineering Assembly Platforms and the Paint and Energy Management group.
    Chao's previous assignments with General Motors include Director - Lean
Manufacturing Alliance, Mid-Lux Car Group, North American Operations; Director
- Competitive Manufacturing, Cadillac Luxury Car Division; Director -
Synchronous Operations, Flint Automotive Division, Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac
Group; Manager - Manufacturing Technical Staff, Flint Automotive Division; and
Quality Control Engineer - General Motors/Toyota NUMMI.
    Chao holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of California,
Berkeley and a Master's of Business Administration from Yale University.
