Cummins Appoints Rose Vice President - General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary

    COLUMBUS, Ind.--Feb. 20, 2001--Cummins Inc. announced today the appointment of Marya Mernitz Rose as Vice President - General Counsel. She will also continue to serve as Assistant Corporate Secretary for Cummins.
    Rose, 38, joined the Company in 1997 as Corporate Counsel, and was named Corporate Counsel and Director - Public Relations in 1998. She was promoted in 1999 to Corporate Counsel and Director - Public Relations and Communications Strategy. In March of 2000, Rose was named Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary, the position she held until her most recent appointment.
    Prior to joining Cummins, Rose held various policy positions in state government, including serving on the executive staffs of both current Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon and former Indiana Governor (now Senator) Evan Bayh. Before her public service, Rose was in private practice with the Indianapolis law firm Bose McKinney & Evans, specializing in litigation and environmental work.
    A native Hoosier, Rose is a graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts and Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. She is married to Anthony J. Rose, an Internet attorney.
