Siemens Automotive Takes Technology to the
Streets During 2001 SAE World Congress
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 20 Siemens Automotive is taking
its featured technology out of the exhibit and onto the streets during the
2001 Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) World Congress, March 5-8, 2001,
Cobo Center, Detroit.
"We will have several demonstration vehicles equipped with our new product
innovations and next generation technology," said Siemens Automotive President
and CEO John Sanderson. "We invite media to experience Siemens Automotive
technology first-hand on the streets of Detroit."
During the week of the SAE World Congress, Siemens Automotive will have
demonstration vehicles featuring the following technologies:
* Tire Monitoring System (TMS) - Siemens Automotive has developed a
monitoring system for tire pressure, temperature and acceleration (TMS)
universal for all standard Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) tire makes
and models. Witness how the Siemens system monitors more than just pressure
to improve tire safety and meet and exceed impending legislative requirements.
* Closure Force Limitation (CFL) Anti-Pinch Motor Technology - Now
available for rear lift gates and retractable running boards on sport utility
vehicles (SUV), minivans and trucks, the Siemens CFL allows all power-assisted
vehicle closures to operate in relative pinch-free safety.
* The Passive Start/Entry (PASE) System - The PASE system literally
replaces the car key with a card, slightly thicker than the typical credit
card. The revolution of the keyless car started by Siemens in 1999 is picking
up its "pace," with applications appearing in the U.S. market beginning in
approximately one year.
* Fingerprint Identification - The same whirls and swirls that make each
human fingertip unique can authorize a computer user, permit cellular phone
calls and recognize a vehicle's operator. Experience how the individuality
of a fingerprint is used to personalize the driving experience, while
improving security.
* Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) - powered vehicle, which also is
equipped with an Automatic-Manual Transmission (AMT). Experience seamless
"start-stop" driving and how it will play an integral role in helping SUV
makers reach their stated fuel economy improvement goals of up to 25 percent
by 2005.
* Gasoline/electric through-the-road hybrid SUV - A true hybrid, the
vehicle utilizes an independently operating internal combustion engine and
electric motor to reduce vehicle emissions, increase fuel efficiency while
adding power and torque.
* Quick Scout(R) PDA, personal digital assistant (PDA)-based portable
Telematics system.
