Stratasys Introduces Insight Preprocessing Software for FDM Rapid Prototyping Systems
MINNEAPOLIS--Feb. 20, 2001--Rapid Prototyping systems maker, Stratasys, , today introduced Insight,(TM) its new preprocessing software. Insight increases rapid-prototyping-machine build speed and improves design engineers' control and efficiency. The software will enhance performance of fused deposition modeling (FDM(R)) systems, and it will be distributed to all users. Insight replaces QuickSlice(R) software, which has been standard on all FDM systems since 1993.Insight allows significantly faster model building as well as material saving with new control over toolpath and model-support creation. A new remote-notification feature alerts users via e-mail or pager when a job is complete or interrupted, allowing them to concentrate on other tasks. The "packing" function lets users combine and build several smaller models simultaneously. Packing maximizes use of the build envelope and minimizes time removing parts and starting a new job.
The Modeler Status feature updates users on the job status while the machine is building a part. It lets users view elapsed time, time remaining, amount of material used, and completion or abortion status. To help analyze modeler use, a build-log tracks jobs by name, material usage, build times, and completion status. Because Insight can be used on a network, users can send jobs to modelers or manage the job queue from any workstation on the network. Insight operates on a Windows NT(R) platform.
"Simplifying the design engineer's job is what drives innovation here," says Stratasys application-software manager Tom Studanski. "Insight offers a suite of features that engineers really can use, and we will be passing this value on to them." Stratasys will begin distributing Insight CD ROMs to FDM users in April.
Founded in 1989, Stratasys is one of the top three rapid prototyping system manufacturers. The Company's patented fused deposition modeling (FDM(R)) process creates solid models directly from 3D CAD files, using ABS plastic, wax, elastomer, or polyester compounds. Stratasys provides machines for OEMs such as aerospace, automotive, technology, consumer, and medical product makers. According the 1999 Wohlers Report on the state of the rapid prototyping and tooling industry, Stratasys installed more rapid prototyping systems than any other manufacturer over the last three years combined.
