Ford Launches the Ikon in South Africa And
Central America - just-auto.com reports
LONDON, Feb. 19 http://www.just-auto.com -- Following its
successful debut in India, the Ford Ikon is set to be launched in South Africa
and Central America this week.
The exclusive report at http://just-auto.com/features_detail.asp?art=442
says that the launch of the Ikon will bring a new lease of life to the BE-91
platform -- extending it's life to at least five years, which is good news for
the component suppliers.
Competing with the VW Polo Classic, Opel Corsa Classic, Fiat Sienna and
the Hyundai Accent, the Ikon is priced competitively -- offering 'more for
less.' With air conditioning and the ability to drive above 120km/h, in South
Africa, the Ikon will be priced at R87,195 to R95,360
($US11,100 to $US 12,100).
Ford is using the Ikon as a tool to re-enter the South African market and
rebuild its image following the perception of poor quality during the period
of disinvestments and anti-apartheid sanctions.
The Ikon will be aimed at 25-49 year old married males.
