Federal-Mogul Announces Agreement with Nagares s.a. To Provide High-Performance Timer/Glow Plug Systems for Vehicles

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Feb. 19 Federal-Mogul Corporation
announced that its Italian subsidiary, Federal-Mogul S.r.l.,
signed an agreement with Nagares s.a. to supply automobile manufacturers with
timer/glow plug systems offering performance, cost and emissions benefits.

    The alliance will combine new-technology glow plugs produced by Federal-
Mogul -- maker of Champion(R) ignition products -- with innovative electronic
multiplexing timers manufactured by Nagares s.a.  The joint effort will allow
the new glow plugs and timers to be developed and sold together as systems.
Glow plugs assist in starting diesel engines by heating the engines until
self-ignition occurs.  Conventional gasoline engines use spark plugs as
opposed to glow plugs.
    Rene Dalleur, vice president, sealing systems/ignitions/wipers, Europe and
Africa, Federal-Mogul, and Herminio Navalon Carretero, president and director
general of Nagares s.a., signed the non-equity agreement today.

our customers with an innovative solution for diesel engine ignition systems,
with higher performance at a potentially lower cost than traditional systems,"
said Dalleur.  "Our combined strengths will enable us to deliver high-quality,
competitively-priced ignition systems as well as to jointly develop systems
meeting the growing demands of 21st century diesel engines.

    Dalleur noted that integrating electronics developed by Nagares s.a. with
Federal-Mogul glow plugs will allow for a technologically advanced timer/glow
plug system, designed to heat engines quickly and control emissions, while
providing valuable diagnostic information.
