Moog steering and suspension components have been used by 35 consecutive
NASCAR Winston Cup champions, and every vehicle on the track this weekend will
rely on Moog technology -- the same designs available right out of the box for
most passenger cars, vans, light trucks and sport utility vehicles.
"From the chassis parts engineered for the fastest stock cars back in the
1960s to today's components featuring new Moog M2 Technology(TM), our
partnership with NASCAR teams has always focused on the same Moog products
customers can purchase every day for their own vehicles," said Jay Burkhart,
vice president of marketing for Federal-Mogul.
"The fact that every car on the track in Daytona will be using Moog
products speaks volumes about the quality designed and built into every
component sold under this great brand."
Moog components were first used by NASCAR teams in 1962. The following
year, driver "Fireball" Roberts placed the distinctive blue-and-yellow Moog
decal on his car, beginning one of the longest official contingency
sponsorship programs in NASCAR history. By 1966, every NASCAR
Winston Cup driver -- including season champion David Pearson -- was using
Moog products, beginning what has become nearly four decades of racing
dominance.
Moog steering and suspension products include ball joints, inner and outer
tie rods, drag links, center links, idler and pitman arms, control arm shafts
and bushings, steering dampers, standard and variable-rate coil springs and
wheel alignment products installed each day by tens of thousands of vehicle
repair businesses across North America.
Since 1919, the Moog name has been synonymous with the development of
steering and suspension technologies that improve on original equipment
designs. Through the years, this "problem-solving" engineering philosophy has
helped millions of technicians enhance the performance and durability of the
steering and suspension systems on their customers' vehicles.
Moog M2 Technology, the brand's latest engineering breakthrough, can be
seen in action during every NASCAR Winston Cup event. M2 Technology consists
of a full-ball-configured metal stud and an exclusive double bearing with
metal "gusher" design. M2 Technology is designed to produce noticeably
improved steering performance, more precise vehicle handling, reduced tire
wear and extended component service life.
Moog ball joints featuring M2 Technology were first tested with leading
NASCAR teams in 1998 and have become standard equipment in Winston Cup
vehicles.
Sunday's Daytona 500 also marks the beginning of a nearly year-long
promotion that encourages professional technicians and their customers to earn
a variety of exclusively designed, limited-edition NASCAR collectibles by
relying on Moog technologies. The "Winners Align with Moog" promotion is
designed to increase consumer awareness of the importance of alignment
services and the exclusive benefits of Moog steering and suspension
components. One of the premiums available to technicians and consumers is an
exclusive Moog "35 Champions" racing pin collection that represents every
NASCAR champion since 1966 and comes in an attractive case.
