New Facilities Now Operational at Cosworth
Technology Inc.
NOVI, Mich., Feb. 16 Cosworth Technology's impressive
automotive engineering capabilities at its U.S. base in Novi, Michigan have
been further enhanced now that two key new facilities are up and running.
The new Variable Temperature SHED (Seal Housing for Evaporative
Determination) and all-wheel-drive rolling road dynamometer at CT's Novi,
Michigan, base were commissioned following an investment of almost $1.5
million late last year.
The VT SHED records the evaporative emissions generated from a car over
repetitive temperature test cycles as dictated by Federal and State
regulations in the U.S. Its operational temperature range is 60 to 114
degrees Fahrenheit. During this time the emissions are measured from the
static car to check that they meet the stated requirement.
The Froude Consine all-wheel drive rolling road dynamometer is one of the
first of its kind in the U.S. to feature electrical connection between the two
rollers rather than a mechanical linkage.
It features two 48-inch rollers which can handle output of 200 brake horse
power at each axle, making a total rating of 400bhp. Adjustment of anything
between 6.9 feet and 10.9 feet can be accommodated, meaning it can be used by
small cars and pick-up trucks.
This facility will give Cosworth Technology Inc. the ability to test a
varied range of all-wheel drive vehicles.
Cosworth Technology's expertise in the design and manufacture of advanced
powertrains will be on show at Booth 2413 at the 2001 SAE World Congress and
Exposition during March 5-8.
