Monterey, CA - Bryan Herta, driver of the #77 Zakspeed/Forsythe/Ford-Reynard returned to Laguna Seca Tuesday, the site of his back-to-back 1998 and ‘99 CART victories. Unfortunately, mechanical problems sidelined Herta and his crew for most of the day.
"Bryan was up to speed immediately as he took to the track this morning. In fact in just a few laps, he did a 69.2, which at that point, was the fastest time of the day. Just a couple of miles later, we suffered a clutch failure, which cost us nearly two hours of valuable track time," said team manager, Steve Dickson.
The afternoon didn’t fare much better for the Zakspeed/Forsythe crew. Within just a few laps of returning to the 2.238 – mile road course, their day ended with another mechanical failure.
Dickson continued, "it was a typical Laguna Seca performance by Bryan this morning. He was up to speed immediately, and that is what you would expect from him, but we certainly were not expecting the failures we had today."
"We had a tough day today, but we will be back tomorrow, and hopefully maximize the track time. We came here with a full schedule, so we have some making up to do. I love it here, this is a very good track for me, and it is a great place for us to prepare for the 2001 season" said Herta.
