Hayes Lemmerz Named a Finalist for the 2001 Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contributions to Excellence Awards

NORTHVILLE, Mich., Feb. 14 Hayes Lemmerz International,
Inc. , recently announced that it has been named a finalist for the
prestigious 2001 Premier Automotive Suppliers' Contributions to Excellence
(PACE) Awards for its innovation of the Full Face Cast (FFC(R)) Aluminum
Wheel.
FFC is a patented process used in combining a spun aluminum rim with a
cast aluminum center disc. The innovation provides an improved wheel assembly
that offers high styling flexibility afforded by casting with the higher
strength to weight ratio of the rim afforded by metal forming processes.
"We've taken the best of cast and the best of spun aluminum and put them
together," said Ronald Kolakowski, President of Hayes Lemmerz' North American
Wheel Group. "FFC offers great flexibility because one rim can be used on a
variety of center discs, allowing an OEM to use one rim for an entire family
of wheels. With interchangeable discs, lead time is reduced because they use
a common set of tools; but the real beauty is that because of the spinning
process, the larger the wheel, the larger the weight savings."
Kolakowski added, "We are all extremely pleased to be selected as a
finalist for the 2001 PACE Awards. Industry recognition, such as this, of
Hayes Lemmerz' commitment to developing innovative technology is truly an
honor."
Winners of the 2001 PACE Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony at
the Detroit Opera House in Detroit, Michigan, on Monday, March 5, 2001, which
coincides with the start of the 2001 SAE International Congress and
Exposition.
Jointly sponsored by Automotive News and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, PACE
Awards recognize automotive suppliers for innovative products, manufacturing
and service achievements.
