General Motors Selects Mercia Software's Demand and Supply
Chain Solution For Service Parts
Global Supply Chain Leader to Facilitate Forecasting, Replenishment Planning
And Distribution of Service Parts in GM Regions
ATLANTA, Feb. 12 Everybody knows General Motors and
everyday millions of people around North America step into their General
Motors car, van or truck and head off to work, shop or vacation. The one
thing all these people have in common is that their vehicles will all require
replacement parts either on a planned basis or by accident, for regular
maintenance and repair. Ensuring that the parts you require are available is
the role of General Motors - Service Parts Operation (GM-SPO).
GM-SPO, headquartered in Flint, MI., have recently purchased the
MerciaLincs Demand & Supply Chain Planning system, to enable the business to
manage the Service Parts business in North America. This follows other
divisions of General Motors around the globe (General Motors - Brazil, Holden
- Australia, Saturn - North America) investing in the MerciaLincs system for
forecasting, replenishment planning and distribution of service parts in their
own regions.
The results achieved around the globe in reduced inventory and increased
service levels had caught the attention of General Motors' largest service
parts operation in North America. Following a search into the available
solutions, Mercia Software was selected to supply the MerciaLincs solution.
Mercia's selection was due in part to its experience in service parts planning
and a functional and scalable solution.
The solution is currently being installed at the Flint, MI. site and will
be used by 120 parts planners for the procurement and distribution of more
than 600,000 service parts in the North American marketplace. It is expected
that MerciaLincs will reduce inventory and increase customer service levels.
