Oshkosh Truck's Medtec Brand Ambulances To Serve at 43rd Daytona 500

    OSHKOSH, Wis.--Feb. 12, 2001--Two new Medtec ambulances will be on hand for emergencies at the 43rd annual Daytona(R) 500 NASCAR(R) Winston Cup Series Race on February 18, 2001. The ambulances were in service with Daytona safety crews during the Rolex 24 race on February 4 and will be used throughout the 2001 Speedweeks, which run February 5 through February 18.
    "Our highest priority is the safety of our fans and competitors," said John Graham, president of Daytona International Speedway. "We look to put the finest equipment at the disposal of our fire and safety crews."

    The Type II Medtec ambulances are custom built on Ford E-350 deluxe van chassis. These compact ambulances feature a low profile so that they can be driven from the infield through the tunnel underneath turn three of the track.

    Pierce Manufacturing, Medtec's sister brand, is the official fire truck of Daytona International Speedway. Five pieces of Pierce(R) fire suppression apparatus will also be on hand for the events.
