TRACKS: Thompson Appointed Martinsville Speedway’s Vice-President Of Publications

Dick Thompson has been named Vice-President of Publications at Martinsville
Speedway.The 66-year-old Thompson assumed his new position shortly after Jan. 1, 2001. He is in charge of planning and producing event programs and other publications for Martinsville Speedway’s three major race weekends each year.
Thompson has worked at Martinsville Speedway since Jan. 2, 1966 when he became the track’s first public relations director. He most recently was the track’s Vice President of Corporate Communications.
Before joining the speedway, he was a member of The Roanoke Times sports department for nine years. He began covering NASCAR racing shortly after he joined the Times and was soon writing a racing column that appeared 50 weeks a year.
Thompson, who has been married to his wife Sandra for 46 years, live in Ridgeway. They have four children and eight grandchildren.
