Exclusive: BMW to Assemble 3-Series in Russia says just-auto.com

BMW has told just-auto.com that the new 3-series is to be built in Kaliningrad
in Russia and output of the 318 and 320 could start as early as April 2001.

says that the 3-series will complement production of the 5-series and
7-series.
    BMW is investing in and has plans to increase sales in Russia --
it already has 20 dealers in the country and is planning to open a further
five or six this year.
    The 3-series then could provide a boost to sales in the region as the
Russian media has suggested that models would cost $4,000-$5,000 below import
versions.
