Ford Remembers Former Executive
DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 9 -_ Joseph A. Kordick, former vice
president and general manager of Ford's Parts and Service Division, died on
Feb. 7 in Palm City, Fla. at the age of 69.
The former U.S. executive retired in 1989 after 32 years with Ford Motor
Company . Kordick began his career in Ford's Finance Staff and held
numerous management positions. Prior to joining Ford in 1954, Kordick served
in the armed forces during the Korean conflict.
During his career, Kordick was a champion of the employee-involvement
cultural change at Ford in the 1980s. His vision and dedication, and his
commitment to customers, employees and dealers contributed substantially to
the progress of Ford Motor Company. He was named an "Automotive News All-
Star" in 1988 for his work at Ford.
"In his Ford role, Joe had a unique, almost spiritual connection with
customers. Also, he paved the way for individual participation in community
service by making a significant impact, particularly in hospice work," said
Lee Miskowski, who succeeded Kordick at Ford's Parts and Service Division.
While in Michigan, Kordick's community service activities included Hospice
of Southeast Michigan, United Way of Michigan and First United Methodist
Church of Plymouth.
A devout Methodist, Kordick retired from the company to work full time as
a volunteer counselor at a south Florida hospice, helping terminally ill
cancer patients and their families. He held leadership positions in the Palm
City Presbyterian Church, United Way of Martin County and as a fundraiser for
Hospice of Martin County, Inc. He also served as a board member to several
charitable, educational and civic organizations. He was responsible for the
establishment of "Character Counts! of Martin County."
Kordick graduated with honors from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill.
He was born and raised in Chicago and resided in Palm City, Fla. with his wife
of 49 years, Phyllis. He had three children and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. at the Palm City
Presbyterian Church, 2700 Martin Highway, Palm City, Fla. 34990. The family
requests that donations be made to the Palm City Presbyterian Church Building
Fund.
