Exclusive: Australia: Record Sales -- Cause for Concern for Holden? Asks just-auto.com

    LONDON, Feb. 9 http://www.just-auto.com -- Although
January 2001 was a good month for General Motors' Australian arm Holden in
terms of sales -- it claimed almost one in five vehicles sold -- closer
analysis of the statistics will cause concern in the Holden camp.

says that the Holden Commodore is still dominating the big car market selling
4859 models in January 2001 compared to the Ford Falcon which sold 3011.
    So why, having just experienced its best January sales in 22 years, should
Holden need to worry?
    Ford Australia may scale down its operations if sales of the Falcon do not
pick up but this would not be in Holden's favour.  It will be unable to hold
up the big car market alone, leaving gaps in the market for smaller cars.
