Team will run full season in hopes of rookie honors in 2002
Austin, Texas - H & H Motorsports has announced that it has purchased an ASA Racing Series Team for driver Clay Huckaby. The team purchased two 2001 Pontiac Grand Prixs, pit and shop equipment, a 70-foot long Kenworth Truck and a two car trailer, all former equipment used by 2000 Rookie of the Year candidate Tracey Goodson.
Plans call for the team to compete in eight races in the 2001 season, while running all twenty events in a run for the 2002 Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year honors.
“The ASA Racing Series is the premier series for short-track auto racing sanction in the United States and will be a big leap for us all,” said Huckaby. “I have a great crew behind me who are working extremely hard to get everything ready for this year. I'm excited and confident that we can show up and make the shows. My goal is to qualify for each event and learn as much as possible over the next year. Then in 2002 we believe we can go at it full force. I think everyone involved is excited.”
Huckaby, of Buda, Texas, recently came off of his third year of running the American Race Truck Series. Over the past three years he has received many awards including the "Season Professional Award," where he was awarded a 1923 T-Bucket Roadster. Huckaby finished in the top-10 all three years with 2000 being his best year, where he finished second in points out of 60-plus drivers. Before trucks, Huckaby competed on high-banked dirt tracks throughout the Lone Star State, winning several heat and feature ra ces.
H & H Motorsports led by Crew Chief Terry Lewis are planning on running a select number of dates in the 2001 ASA Racing Series. H & H Motorsports plans to compete in eight of the 20 events. In 2002, H & H Motorsports plans to compete in all 20 events and make a run at " Rookie of the Year."
