DaimlerChrysler Corporation Partners with
Digital Insurance To offer Online Benefit Procurement to
its Dealers and Suppliers
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 8 DaimlerChrysler Corporation
announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Digital Insurance,
an online provider of health insurance options for small business customers,
to become the exclusive online resource for employee healthcare benefits
offered by DaimlerChrysler to its dealers and small business suppliers (of 500
employees or fewer).
Through the Digital Insurance web-based application, targeted suppliers
and dealers will have the opportunity to research, price, compare, purchase
and administer a broad selection of insurance products online, streamlining
what is currently a manual paper process. DaimlerChrysler estimates that its
suppliers and dealers spend approximately $50 billion annually on insurance.
"As healthcare costs continue to escalate in the U.S., DaimlerChrysler is
working diligently to find new ways to drive inefficiency out of the system
while enhancing quality," said Nancy Rae, DaimlerChrysler's Senior Vice
President - Human Resources. "Our partnership with Digital Insurance will
allow us to leverage web technology, key health care providers and other
benefit companies to lower the cost of health care for our suppliers and
dealers. Ultimately, this will translate into lower health care and related
benefit costs per vehicle."
DaimlerChrysler will begin rolling out the initiative to thousands of
suppliers and the Company's 4,500 dealers in the first quarter of 2001.
"This is all about efficiency and connectivity," said Gary Dilts,
DaimlerChrysler's Senior Vice President - eConnect Platform. "Because of this
virtual marketplace, our dealers and smaller suppliers enjoy the benefits of
aggregated buying power, delivered with the speed of the Internet."
"We are honored that DaimlerChrysler has chosen Digital Insurance as their
exclusive online health insurance partner," said Tom Usilton, President and
Chief Executive Officer of Digital Insurance. "We know that small businesses
want flexibility, convenience and choice when selecting health insurance
benefits, and we are committed to offering DaimlerChrysler's small suppliers
and dealers -- and all of our customers -- with the convenience of the
Internet and a variety of coverage options from respected health insurance
carriers who understand their unique coverage needs."
