Digital Insurance to Serve as Exclusive Online
Health Insurance Resource For DaimlerChrysler Corporation's
Extended Enterprise
ATLANTA, Feb. 8 Digital Insurance Inc., an online health
insurance resource for individual, self-employed and small business customers,
today announced a partnership with DaimlerChrysler Corporation to
serve as the exclusive online health insurance resource for DaimlerChrysler's
Extended Enterprise(R), dealers and small suppliers of 500 employees or less.
DaimlerChrysler will begin rolling out the initiative to thousands of
suppliers and the company's 4,500 dealers in the first quarter of 2001.
"As healthcare costs continue to escalate in the U.S., DaimlerChrysler is
working diligently to find ways to drive inefficiency out of the system while
enhancing quality," said Nancy Rae, DaimlerChrysler's senior vice president of
human resources. "Our partnership with Digital Insurance will allow us to
leverage Web technology, key health care providers and other benefit companies
to lower the cost of health care for our suppliers and dealers. Ultimately,
this will translate into lower health care and related benefit costs per
vehicle."
Through the Digital Insurance Web-based application -- located at
http://www.digitalinsurance.com -- targeted DaimlerChrysler suppliers and dealers
will have the opportunity to research, price, compare benefits, purchase and
administer a broad selection of insurance products online, streamlining what
is currently a manual paper process. At the same time, these small suppliers
and dealers will be able to reduce their administrative costs and access a
wider selection of benefit plans provided by prominent insurance carriers.
Together, suppliers and dealers spend approximately $50 billion on employee
benefits each year.
"We recognize the need small businesses have for more cost-effective,
convenient ways to provide their employees with quality health insurance
plans," said Tom Usilton, chief executive officer of Digital Insurance. "It's
a testament to our company that one of the largest auto manufacturers in the
world has chosen us as their exclusive online health insurance partner for
their Extended Enterprise."
Digital Insurance's partnership with HealthAxis last year allowed the
company to leverage a proven technology infrastructure to enable the sale and
service of health insurance products online. Internet Healthcare Group, which
is a lead capital partner of Digital Insurance, was instrumental in forging
the relationship between DaimlerChrysler and Digital Insurance.
