Cummins Launches 330-HP ISL Engine for Transit Market

COLUMBUS, Ind.--Feb. 7, 2001--Cummins Inc. today announced the availability of a new engine for the transit market - the 330-horsepower ISL.
"The ISL 330, an 8.9-liter engine, offers unequaled performance as well as industry-leading fuel and maintenance costs for outstanding bottom-line results for our customers," said Clark Ahrens, general manager, Cummins worldwide bus business. "This compact (1,550-lb) engine has been designed for 60-foot articulated buses and 40-foot models that have higher performance requirements."
The ISL provides integrated electronic features that optimize fuel, lube, cooling, air and powertrain performance while keeping track of vital statistics for the driver, technician and/or operations manager.
The engine is compatible with all Cummins electronic tools such as INSITE(TM) for troubleshooting and repair.
Standard features include roller-type camshaft followers, a structurally reinforced block design as well as a patented mid-stop liner design. Like the Cummins ISM engine, the ISL has heavy-duty components, such as articulated pistons and targeted piston cooling. It's also highly dependable in cold-start environments.
As with all Cummins engines, the ISL 330 engine is supported by Cummins QuickServe(R), which provides fast and responsive service for Cummins customers in North America. The QuickServe initiative allows for outstanding service and is supported by Cummins world-class distribution network. Cummins now accepts emergency parts orders until midnight Eastern standard time for next-day delivery to most locations in the U.S. and Canada. QuickServe has also expanded the availability of Genuine Cummins Parts, Cummins ReCon(R) components and Fleetguard(R) products.
