Approves AutoVAZ Project
LONDON, Feb. 7 http://www.just-auto.com -- General Motors
Corp. yesterday approved a $US333 million project to make cars in Russia with
AO AvtoVAZ and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD),
according to industry sources.

reveals that the venture would build an upgraded version of AutoVAZ's new Lada
Niva 2123, using investments of $US101 million from AutoVAZ, US$99 million
from GM and US$40 million from EBRD, plus a $US93 million loan from the bank.
Insiders said that the model would be sold under the US automaker's
Chevrolet brand in Russia and elsewhere, and would be made at a new plant at
AutoVAZ headquarters in Tolyatti.
