Amerigon Ships 100,000th Climate Control
Seat(TM) (CCS(TM)) System
Milestone Achievement Marks Growing Consumer Acceptance; Available In
Three Automotive Platforms, with Fourth Scheduled for This Spring
IRWINDALE, Calif., Feb. 7 Amerigon Incorporated
announced today that it has shipped its 100,000th proprietary
Climate Control Seat(TM) (CCS(TM)) system since commercial shipments began in
late November 1999 with CCS being first introduced as an option for driver and
front seat passenger seats in the 2000 model year Lincoln Navigator sports
utility vehicle. In making the announcement, Amerigon President and CEO
Richard A. Weisbart said, "Attaining this milestone is a significant
achievement for Amerigon. We believe it not only marks the growing acceptance
of CCS by consumers, it is also a clear indication that we have established
CCS as an important feature that adds value to each automotive platform that
offers it."
CCS is now being offered as an option in the U.S. in the 2001 model year
Lincoln Navigator, in the U.S. and Europe in the new 2001 model year Lexus LS
430 luxury sedan and in Japan in the 2001 model year Toyota Celsior, Toyota's
flagship model sold in Japan. It has also been selected to be a standard
feature in the all-new 2002 model year Lincoln Blackwood luxury utility
vehicle, scheduled to be in dealer showrooms this Spring.
The patented CCS system is the only such system on the market today that
allows the driver and front seat passengers to individually and actively
control the warming or cooling of their respective seats to meet climate
conditions for year-round comfort. The climate controls operate through a
self-contained and self-generating cooling and heating system that is
integrated into each seat.
"Our OEM-approved manufacturing operation is running smoothly," Weisbart
said, "and we are well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for CCS from
current customers, as well as from the future automotive platforms we see
being solidified over the next 12 months. We are continuing to aggressively
market CCS to more than 20 automotive platforms teams worldwide."
In the first quarter of last year, Amerigon entered into an agreement with
Ford Motor Company , whereby Ford will exclusively use Amerigon's
proprietary CCS system for heated and cooled or heated and ventilated seats
for a period of five years.
Climate Control Seat(TM) (CCS(TM))
The proprietary CCS system, which is integrated into a vehicle seat, is the
first system of its kind. It significantly enhances individual driver and
passenger comfort in virtually all climatic conditions by providing cooling
and heating to seat occupants, as desired, through an active,
thermoelectric-based temperature management system.
Ambient cabin air is drawn into the system where it is heated or cooled by
an advanced, solid-state Thermoelectric Device (TED) heat pump. The system
temperature is regulated by the seat occupant via a switch. The heat pump
uses no CFCs or other environmentally sensitive coolants. The "conditioned"
air is circulated through the seat surfaces to the seat occupants by a
uniquely designed fan mounted into the structure of each seat.
