SDRC Extends Commitment to Sun's iForce CPC Initiative

    CINCINNATI--Feb. 6, 2001--

CPC Solutions in iForce Ready Centers Help Aerospace and Defense Manufacturers Confidently Test and Deploy Advanced Global Collaboration Solutions

SDRC today announced it is working more closely with long-time industry partner, Sun Microsystems, Inc. to help drive the adoption of Collaborative Product Commerce (CPC) solutions within the discrete manufacturing environment. SDRC and Sun intend to work together to showcase solutions that aerospace and defense manufacturers can utilize to adopt a CPC infrastructure. The two companies are contributing engineering resources to ensure the products are optimized to further drive performance and scalability of their combined CPC solutions. As part of this effort, plans are for SDRC's software suite of Metaphase(R), Accelis(TM), and its recently announced Metaphase Aerospace and Defense Solution to be installed in Sun's iForce(SM) Ready Center located in Menlo Park, Calif., and in the United Kingdom.
"With SDRC inclusion and CPC product contributions to Sun's iForce initiative, we can now validate with customers that we have the products, processes and infrastructure to gain a formidable competitive advantage in a very demanding marketplace," said Masood Jabbar, executive vice president, Global Sales Operations at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Additionally, SDRC's solutions have an added benefit of being CMII certified for total program management, a best practice methodology adopted internally by many government, aerospace and defense companies engaged in mission-critical operations."
"CMII is the best industry practice for enabling change management, and SDRC's Metaphase products are the first to be CMII certified,"said Vince Guess, president, Institute of Configuration Management. "Organizations that best accommodate change, and keep requirements and associated information clear, concise and valid have the highest quality products at the lowest price. SDRC has tremendous experience with implementations using CMII certified solutions. In addition, CMII practices facilitate in-service product maintenance and support, which is crucial to U.S. Government aerospace and defense purchases."
"More than 35 percent of our Metaphase implementations are currently deployed on the Sun platform," said Bill Carrelli, vice president, Market and Business Development, SDRC. The proven combination of our solutions is a powerful force in helping aerospace and defense manufacturers transition to Web-based collaborative business models in order to improve product design, increase efficiency and reduce time to market."
"To further solidify our relationship with Sun," said Bill Weyand, chairman and CEO, SDRC. "We are renewing our commitment to helping the world's leading manufacturers achieve success in their respective businesses. The expanded alliance with Sun is a critical part of SDRC's overall CPC strategy."
CPC is a rapidly evolving market segment requiring a flexible IT infrastructure that allows companies to add new capabilities quickly. The Sun iForce program is designed to provide customers with the strategic relationships and expertise they need to bring their design and manufacturing processes to the Web. Through its iForce CPC initiatives, Sun is working to enable automotive, aerospace, and electronics companies to manage the cost and risks associated with the change as they move to more efficient, inter-enterprise Web-based collaborative product design and development business model.
