The Timken Company Names Gordon Robinson, President - Emerging Markets

    CANTON, Ohio, Feb. 5 As part of its transformation to a
more global organization, The Timken Company has named Gordon W. Robinson,
president -- Emerging Markets, one of eight global business units. He has
responsibility for developing markets in India, Central Europe, Russia, and
China, including Timken's wholly owned manufacturing operation in Yantai,
China.

    "The buyout of our joint venture partner in Yantai Timken Company last
month strengthens our presence in emerging markets and supports the company's
transformation to a global enterprise," says James W. Griffith, president and
chief operating officer.  "The completion of this key transaction is merely
one example of the strong leadership Gordon has provided to our Emerging
Markets organization.  We are confident it will continue to be one of our
highest growth areas."
    Emerging market regions include more than half the world's population and
feature strengthening economies and high economic growth rates.  As a Timken
business unit, Emerging Markets is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing
units, contributing to the company's global transformation to achieve more
profitable growth.  Mr. Robinson works closely with the other Timken business
units to increase the company's presence in these regions through greater
customer focus.
    Mr. Robinson joined Timken in 1973 as a sales associate.  In 1981, he was
named area sales manager - Scandinavia.  He also held positions of general
manager - Timken Italia and sales manager - Southern Europe.  He became head
of Timken India in Jamshedpur, India in 1998 and president of Timken China in
1999.  In 2000, he was named vice-president - Emerging Markets.
    Mr. Robinson received a mechanical engineering degree from Nottingham
Polytechnic in England and attended the advanced management program at INSEAD,
France.
