Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Feb. 2 Vehicle production this week in
the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 292,687 units, up
from the 270,493 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's
Automotive Reports.
    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 1,352,422 vehicles, down 23.4 percent from like-2000's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 205,072 vehicles this
week, up 6.9 percent from the 191,765 cars and trucks built last week.  To
date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 948,458 units,
down 25.9 percent from the 1,279,652 vehicles built in like-2000.
    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 50,207, a 16.2
percent increase from the 43,226 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 240,017 units, down
25.1 percent compared to the 320,655 vehicles produced in like-2000.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 29.8 percent; Ford Motor Co., 32.1 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 9.7 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.6
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.5 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.0
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.6 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.7 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. America Inc., 2.3 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.8 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.2 percent; and
other manufacturers, 1.7 percent.
