The Pro Stock Truck class was the first professional class to officially begin the '01 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season.
After the first of four scheduled qualifying sessions Mike Coughlin and his yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10 are resting in the number 12 position. He ran a 7.541 at 178.97 mph.
"We have plenty of room for improvement and we will be stronger tomorrow," said Mike. "The key to being successful is to learn from your mistakes. We know what we did wrong and we will use all of the data that we have to get us to where we should be."
John and his Jeg's machine launched from the starting line and made a sudden move toward the centerline. He returned quickly to the middle of the groove in the right lane. John ran a 7.557 at 179.73 mph and will begin the second session from the outside looking in from the number 17. John was the fifth fastest of the session.
"It's obvious that we have the horsepower judging by the speed that we ran," explained John. "When I left the starting line and moved to the left it really hurt the ET. Having a smooth launch from the line is a big part of putting good numbers on the board."
