SPEEDFEST 2001: Drivers and Teams Take to Track in Lengthy Practice Session

LAKELAND, FL -- A relatively uneventful day of practice was welcomed by the 75 plus teams which took to the track Wednesday afternoon and evening for the initial practice session leading to this weekends SPEEDFEST 2001. While there were no serious incidents, a handful of teams are already scrambling to replace broken powerplants or tune-in their spring and shock packages. A few spins during the afternoon and one significant oil down by Jared Allison in the Super Late Model division slowed the practice session.[PARA]While no times were recorded by official means, discussion through the pit area seemed to indicate Dick Anderson and Rick Carlton to be at the top of the speed charts. With entries stretching as far north as Nova Scotia Canada and Texas to the west to compliment a strong showing from the Mid-west headed by Scott Hantz and Junior Hanley, it's likely to great crowded at the top.[PARA]Pit gates open tomorrow, Thursday February 1st, at 8am. Practice begins at 2 followed by qualifying at 5.[PARA]Thursday's opening night is also featured as 97 Country Night with fans gaining admission to all the racing action for only 97¢ with a WPCV 97 Country bumper sticker!

Thursday's line-up includes a 30 Modified, 40 lap Late Model and 50 lap Super Late Model races in addition to qualifying for all divisions and heat races.[PARA]Racing continues Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 PM.

Speedfest 2001 conclude with a special Sunday afternoon of long distance racing by all divisions plus the new FASTRUCK Series in a 50 lapper.[PARA]4 day reserve seat tickets are available along with individual race day tickets by calling the speedway office at 1-800-984-7223.
