USF Holland Reports Record Number of Shipments Delivered Claim-Free

HOLLAND, Mich.--Feb. 1, 2001--USF Holland Inc., a regional carrier unit of USFreightways Corporation, delivered 99.81% of its shipments during 2000 free of loss or damage claims. This was the fifth year in a row that the company improved its pacesetting performance in this area. The number of loss and damage claims filed with the carrier actually decreased by 2% compared with 1999.
USF Holland's claim ratio--the dollars paid for claims as a percentage of revenue--for 2000 was 0.34%. This was a 0.03% reduction from its 1999 claim ratio, marking the second consecutive year-over-year improvement. The industry average claim ratio is 1.30% according to the most recently reported statistics by the American Trucking Associations' Transportation Loss Prevention and Security Council.
"Our customers place great value on receiving their shipments without loss or damage," said Ken DeVries, USF Holland's Director of Claim Prevention. "We estimate that this past year's improvements alone saved our company $300,000. We are tremendously proud that we are an industry-leader in this critical area and that our people are committed to improving each year."
